בּוּכָנָא
בּוּכָנָא, בּוּכָאנָאm. (Syr. בוקלא; בכן, בקלבו, בק to split; cmp. Ges. H. Dict. s. v. בכא) 1) a club, a stripped smooth pole, bar. Erub.102a ב׳ קאמרת (Ar. ed. Koh. בכנא) you speak of a club (with a handle used as a door-bar).Pl. בּוּכָאנֵי. B. Kam.93b it says (in the Mish.), ‘If one robbed pieces of wood and made utensils out of them בב׳ דהיינווכ׳ Ar. (ed. ב׳ with one ב, Ms. H. בביכאני) it means that he made them into clubs, that is ‘he polished them. 2) esp. a club (with handles) used as a pestle for crushing olives Sabb.77b (playful etymology) בוכנא ב̇וֹא ואכ̇נה (Ar. ed. Koh. בוכאנא) it is called bukhana, ‘come and I shall strike. Y.Bets. I, 60c bot. ובוכנה דו כתת ביה and concerning a club, for he pounds with it; Y.Sabb.XVII, 16b top במכונה (read בבוכנה). Nidd.36b I am ב׳ דפרזלאוכ׳ an iron pestle which breaks the copper mortar. Bets.14a בו׳ (Ar. ed. Koh. בכ׳).Trnsf. the rib resting in the pelvis, hip-joint. Ḥull.52a, v. אֲסִיתָא.
